SSTC Two Day Training

2 Day Situational Safety & Tactical Communications Course

Description

CERT’s Situational Safety and Tactical Communications course is the foundation programme for anyone in a compliance, enforcement or frontline role where they have to deal with (sometimes aggressive or agitated) customers and members of the public. Participants are taught skills to assess and understand the environment in which they are working, and identify potential risks. They learn proven models and practical skills to communicate effectively to achieve desired outcomes; how to undertake duties professionally and represent the organisation appropriately; and techniques to keep themselves physically – and emotionally, safe. This is a very practical programme, using real-world scenarios based on situations faced in their work environment, based on group discussion, examples and contributions, and the Instructor’s understanding of their roles or industry. It may include such things as being aware of potential risks when approaching people, locations and vehicles, or dealing with difficult or abusive people, and how to use verbal and non-verbal techniques to communicate effectively to get someone to do what they are asked or act in a way they may not wish to.

Our focus is on the soft skills – how to achieve the desired result in a way that is least confrontational to the staff member and to the people they are dealing with. While the course includes some basic tactical skills such as de-escalation and how to withdraw safely from a situation, we believe you only need de-escalation skills if things take a turn for the worse and our aim is to prevent that happening in the first place! And these skills are not just applicable at work. They’re very much life skills that can help people in their personal lives just as much as their professional lives.

Some staff may feel that they have covered these subjects before in previous roles or occupations – we use the latest research to ensure what is taught is new, engaging and builds on any previous experience. On every course we deliver we receive feedback from seasoned professionals that they learnt something new or wish they’d been taught these skills when they began their careers!

 About CERT:

CERT (Compliance, Enforcement and Regulatory Training) Systems Limited was founded in 2007 by compliance and enforcement professionals in New Zealand. Since then we’ve delivered training to hundreds of people in over 70 local and central government agencies and organisations, as well as public and private companies, across New Zealand and Australia. Our core business is central and local government - we hold contracts with a number of government agencies including MBIE, DoC, Fish and Game, Financial Markets Authority, Immigration, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Health, DHBs etc and deliver training to almost all the local/regional councils, but increasingly find ourselves helping those in frontline positions in non-compliance roles such as librarians and retail staff. We’re proud to be the preferred provider of staff safety training to Worksafe, which we feel is a great endorsement of the quality of the training!

All training is delivered by certified trainers, whom combined have over 120 years’ experience in compliance and enforcement across a range of agencies.
